Android · public beta

Help test local dictation on Android.

Try Diktator on your own phone or tablet and tell us how it works. Speech recognition runs on your device. This beta helps us check different processors, keyboards and languages.

Diktator! beta · 0.1.14-beta · APK · 17.9 MB

Android 8.0 or later · 64-bit ARM Android system · compatible GPU required. Compatibility is still being tested; not every Huawei or HarmonyOS device can run Android APKs. This is a direct download, not a Google Play release.

Install and set up

  1. Download the APK on your Android device and open it. If Android asks, allow installation from this browser only. Keep system security protection enabled.
  2. Open Diktator! from your app list. Follow setup to allow microphone access, enable the Diktator keyboard and select it.
  3. Use Wi-Fi for the separate model download. Open AI Models and start with Base. The app shows each download size. Download keyboard language packs if you need them.

Choose a model, then test it

Start with Base, then try Small. Larger models are optional on devices with enough memory; follow any memory warning and choose a smaller model if necessary. There is no requirement to download every model.

As a guide, use Base or Small on devices with 4 GB of RAM. With 8 or 12 GB, you can try larger models, but available GPU memory and compatibility vary. If the app warns that a model will not fit, choose a smaller one.

For larger models, segmented long dictation and final proofreading, start the free 21-day advanced trial in the app: Trial Pro → Start free 21-day trial. No purchase or subscription is needed for this test. Installation alone does not start the trial.

Preparation is optional. Listen starts recording immediately, while the model can prepare in parallel. The first recognized fragment may still take longer to appear.

About 10–15 minutes after downloads

A small, repeatable test

  1. In About, run the built-in check twice with the same model and language. The first and repeated runs help distinguish initial loading from normal use.
  2. Open Notes or a messenger. Turn proofreading off first. Dictate a short phrase of 10–15 seconds, then a passage of 45–60 seconds. Check for missing or repeated words and note the wait after Stop.
  3. Open app search or Google Play search. Check that Enter starts a search and that Android navigation buttons do not cover the keyboard’s bottom row.
  4. After each model or error, open About → Send report. Send the attached .txt through the contact options on the Support page. Nothing is sent automatically.

The built-in check uses a public FLEURS speech sample, available in 13 languages. Compare runs using the same sample and model; its score is not an overall rating of recognition quality.

Optional: a longer dictation

Keep one model selected. Try 3 minutes and then 5 minutes with proofreading off; enable segmentation in the advanced trial. Separately try 3 minutes with proofreading on in Review mode. Record how long each result takes after Stop. Current proofreading repeats recognition of the whole recording and is skipped for recordings longer than 4 minutes.

What to send back

Attach the report after each model or problem. It includes the phone and Android version, processor, GPU, RAM, model/settings, processing timings and recent app-exit information.

Add a few words: test, language, model, approximate recording length, wait after Stop, whether words were correct or missing, whether the device became hot, and which app you used. An error or keyboard screenshot is useful if you hide personal information.

The diagnostic report excludes your dictated audio and text. Review the file before sharing. You choose the recipient; the app does not upload it in the background. Opening the app also checks a public version file on diktator.app. That request includes no device identifier, audio or dictated text.

What is still being tested

A heavy model can still trigger a low-memory warning. Proofreading may take considerable time. Please report both outcomes; performance across devices is still being measured.

Apple Translation is for Apple devices. A separate offline translation engine for Android is still under research and is not part of this test.
